North East Boosted as UK Renewable Energy Targets on Track

According to the Maritime Journal, ‘The UK Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has updated its Renewable Energy Roadmap with the UK on track to meet its European target of sourcing 15% of all energy from renewable sources by 2020.’

In particular, between July 2011 and July 2012 saw a 60% increase in offshore wind capacity to 2.5GW and Renown Engineering are paying particular attention to the North East of England’s developments in the industry. Renown, and the wider Renown Group, are benefiting from increased renewables work being generated in the region.

As well as renewable energy, subsea and North Sea oil and gas activity is also rife in the region, generating business income, jobs and encouraging investment as the North East looks to become a UK hub for offshore activity.
